Hilarious Halloween Gift Tas For Adults

Funny Halloween Gift Tags for Grown-Up Treat Bags

Last year I spent way too much time planning our Halloween party. There were spooky appetizers, Halloween drinks, plenty of food, desserts, and a separate little setup for the kids. I had thought about almost everything, right down to the treats they would take home at the end of the night.

And then the party ended.

The kids happily left carrying Halloween treat bags stuffed with candy and little goodies. The grown-ups? We basically handed them their coats, gave them a hug, and sent them home.

The next day, while I was cleaning everything up, it occurred to me that this was a little unfair. Adults love Halloween too. We are the ones planning the parties, buying the candy, making the food, dressing up, taking a ridiculous number of photos and, usually, cleaning up the aftermath. Surely we deserve a treat bag as well.

So the next time around, I decided the grown-ups were getting their own Halloween party favors. I wasn’t trying to recreate a child’s trick-or-treat bag in a larger size. I just wanted to put together a little something guests could take home, a few good chocolates, individually wrapped cookies and some nicer snacks that I had very deliberately kept away from the kids’ treat table.

The part that ended up getting the biggest reaction, though, wasn’t what was inside. It was the tags.

I wanted Halloween gift tags that were funny without looking childish, so I went with a Grim Reaper theme and sayings such as “You Survived the Night. You Earned the Treat” and “Thanks for Coming to the Dark Side. Take a Treat for the Road.” The Grim Reaper handing out candy instead of collecting souls made me laugh, and apparently I wasn’t the only one.

A couple of people actually kept their tags afterward. Friends who were visiting from another country paired one with a crazy photo of all of us from the party and put it on their family magnet board at home. Another tag ended up displayed at a work desk. I had expected the snacks to disappear. I hadn’t expected the paper tags to become souvenirs.

Halloween treat bags are usually something we automatically associate with kids, but there is no rule saying the grown-ups have to leave the party empty-handed. In fact, I think a small take-home favor is especially fun at an adult Halloween party because it is unexpected.

It doesn’t need to be elaborate or expensive. I would rather have a small bag with two or three really good treats than a giant bag filled with things nobody actually wants. A few nice chocolates, a gourmet cookie, flavored popcorn, coffee or another little indulgence is plenty. The idea is simply to give guests one last bit of Halloween fun after the party is over.

It also makes a surprisingly nice way to say thank you for coming. People have made time to dress up, bring something, travel to your house and spend the evening celebrating with you. Handing them a little treat on the way out feels more personal than a quick goodbye at the door.

And this is where a funny tag does most of the work. A simple paper bag or small favor suddenly feels intentional when there is a Grim Reaper attached to it telling your guest that they have survived the night and earned their chocolate. You do not need an elaborate favor. Sometimes the tag is the part everyone remembers.

When I started thinking about the tags, I knew I didn’t want the usual super-cute Halloween look. Cute smiling ghosts, googly-eyed spiders and cartoon pumpkins are adorable for children’s treat bags, but these favors were specifically for the grown-ups.

At the same time, I didn’t want anything gruesome or genuinely creepy. The Grim Reaper ended up being the perfect middle ground. He is unmistakably Halloween, but in these designs he is far more interested in handing out candy, thanking everyone for coming and making terrible death jokes than actually being scary.

The black, orange and cream color palette also gives the tags a slightly vintage Halloween feel rather than a kiddie-party look. They work well with simple kraft bags, black favor bags, striped bags or even a small box of treats.

Most importantly, the sayings have the kind of humor that makes sense among friends and family. They’re a little sarcastic, a little dark and very Halloween, basically Halloween gift tags for grown-ups who have a sense of humor.

Fortunately, the Grim Reaper wasn’t being completely dramatic here. The party might have been over, but I made sure there were enough good things in the grown-up bags to continue the fun the next day.

Think good chocolate, individually wrapped cookies and a couple of snacks I had very deliberately kept away from the kids’ treat table. This was one of my favorite tags to hand out at the end of the night because the saying actually made sense with what was inside.

If you’ve ever hosted a Halloween party, you know there are guests who pop in for an hour and then there are the people who fully commit. Costumes, food, drinks, ridiculous photographs, the whole thing.

This tag was made for the latter. By the time I was handing out the favor bags at the end of the night, “You survived” felt surprisingly appropriate.

It is also one of the easiest designs to use for everyone if you don’t want to match different sayings to different guests.

Underneath the death pun, this is probably one of the sweetest tags in the set. A Halloween party can have amazing food and decorations, but the people who show up are what actually make it fun.

I especially like this one for friends or family you don’t get to see very often. Attach it to their little take-home treat and it becomes both a Halloween joke and a genuine thank-you for being part of the night.

There is always at least one person who takes a Halloween party more seriously than everybody else. They arrive in an actual costume when half the room has interpreted “costume” as wearing a black shirt, they are enthusiastic about every game, and somehow they still have energy when everyone else is looking for their coats.

This is their tag. I would absolutely save this one for the guest who really committed to the evening.

5. The Grim Reaper Says: Thanks for Coming!

This is the most straightforward thank-you tag of the bunch, but the Grim Reaper makes it much more fun than an ordinary “thanks for coming” label.

If you are making the same favor for every adult guest and don’t want to choose a different saying for each person, this is an easy one to use across all the bags.

It still feels Halloween-specific without requiring the recipient to appreciate quite as much dark humor as some of the other designs.

6. A Little Something From the Other Side. Thanks for Coming!

Don't let your grown-up Halloween guests leave empty-handed! Put together a simple take-home treat and finish it with one of these hilarious Halloween treat bag tags. The funny Grim Reaper designs make easy party favors feel much more memorable—and your guests may even keep the tags afterward.

I love this one because “a little something” is exactly what I wanted these adult Halloween favors to be. They weren’t supposed to be huge gift bags or another expensive part of hosting the party.

A few really good treats were enough.

The saying also works if you don’t want to make a full favor bag at all, tie the tag onto a small box of chocolates, a bag of homemade cookies or another simple Halloween treat.

7. You Survived the Night. You Earned the Treat. Thanks for Coming!

Skip the overly cute Halloween tags and try something with a little more personality. These free printable Halloween gift tags combine vintage Grim Reaper artwork with funny, dark sayings made for grown-ups. Great for adult Halloween party favors, treat bags and gifts for friends who love dark humor.

This one was practically made for the people who stayed until the end. After an evening of costumes, food, Halloween chaos and far too many photos, handing someone a bag that says they “survived the night” feels wonderfully dramatic.

I particularly like pairing this tag with something indulgent inside.

If you’re going to tell someone they earned their treat, it might as well be a good one.

8. Thanks for Coming to the Dark Side. Take a Treat for the Road.

Making Halloween treat bags for your grown-up friends and family? Give them an adult twist with these funny Grim Reaper gift tags. From “You Survived the Night” to “Thanks for Coming to the Dark Side,” these Halloween tags make simple candy and treat bags feel like proper grown-up party favors.
#HalloweenTreatBags #HalloweenGiftTags #GrownUpHalloween #FriendsAndFamily #FunnyHalloween #GrimReaper

This may be my favorite party-favor saying of the entire set because it works perfectly at the exact moment you hand the bag to someone. I love the idea of the Grim Reaper acting like a slightly questionable Halloween host, standing at the door and sending everyone home with snacks. “Take a treat for the road” also makes the purpose of the little gift immediately obvious. It is funny, Halloween-specific and a great final goodbye after a party.

The funny part is that I thought I was making something disposable. The treats would get eaten, the bags would get recycled and that would be the end of it. Instead, some of the tags stuck around.

One of my favorite little memories from the party came later when friends who had been visiting from another country sent us a photo. They had kept their Grim Reaper tag, paired it with a picture of all of us looking completely ridiculous at the Halloween party, and added it to their family magnet board. Someone else kept a tag at their work desk for a while.

I think that’s why I ended up liking these so much. They started as a funny way to make the grown-ups’ treat bags feel a little more special, but they also became tiny souvenirs from a really fun night.

So if the kids are leaving your Halloween party with bags full of goodies this year, maybe don’t forget the adults. Give them a little something good to take home, add a Grim Reaper with a terrible sense of humor, and call it even. After all, they survived the night. They earned the treat.
